Bauchi Gov. Bala Mohammed of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) is to continue in office for a second term following the affirmation of his March 18 governorship election by the Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja on Friday.

In the lead judgment read by Justice Chidiebere Nwaoma Uwa on Friday, the appellate court held that the appeal of AVM Sadique Abubakar, lacked merit and that the APC failed to prove the allegations of malpractices and non-compliance with the Electoral Act, 2022 against Gov. Mohammed and the PDP.

Persecond News reports that there was tight security at the court complex with some roads leading to the facility cordoned off.

Mohammed, who was absent in court, was represented by a high-powered team led by Deputy Gov. Auwal Jatau.

The APC governorship candidate, retired AVM Sadique Baba Abubakar has petitioned the Court of Appeal, claiming that the election petitions tribunal in the state which dismissed his petition for lack of merit, erred in its judgment.

“We have resolved to appeal against the tribunal judgment, we are now heading to the Appeal Court, and we would follow any judicial procedure in the effort to reclaim the people’s mandate,” he said.

He expressed gratitude to his supporters, saying,“We have every confidence that this stolen mandate would be reclaimed at higher judicial stages.”
