7 people including policemen killed as gunmen rob three banks in Benue

Persecondnews gathered that the robbers, who came in two Hilux vans and a Sienna bus armed with sophisticated weapons, shot sporadically into the air and attacked the police station close to one of the banks.

Seven people have been killed by armed robbers, who attacked three banks in Otukpo, Benue State capital, on Friday.

The affected banks include United Bank for Africa (UBA), Zenith Bank, and First Bank.

Among those killed are policemen and a former councilor transacting business in one of the banks.

Persecondnews gathered that the robbers, who came in two Hilux vans and a Sienna bus armed with sophisticated weapons, shot sporadically into the air and attacked the police station close to one of the banks.

They were reported to have used dynamites to force the bank doors open before carting away millions of naira in the operation which lasted for over two hours.

A witness and resident of Otukpo, simply identified as Eche, who works in a shop close to one of the banks, disclosed to Persecondnews on telephone that the robbers numbering about 10 threw money into the air as they drove off.

 

“The gunshots alerted people. People were running for safety. There was a lady among them, who stood on top of the car shooting into the air.

“They robbed from 3 p.m to 5 p.m. They were jubilating and throwing money when they were leaving,” he narrated.
