Just in: Another storey building collapses in Abuja, welcoming new FCT minister as many feared dead

Amid threats by the new Minister of the Federal Capital Territory to restore the city’s master plan and demolish some houses, a storey building has collapsed in Lagos Street, Garki village, Abuja.

The building came down in the late hours of Wednesday, August 23, during the torrential rain.

 

 

A number of people are feared dead while many others are trapped in the collapsed building, Persecondnews reports.

The affected building is said to be housing many apartments while the ground floor was full of shops.

No fewer than 37 persons have so far been rescued and taken to the hospital, while others were still trapped.

Rescue team and other first responders had arrived the scene as early as 2am to carry out rescue operations.
