Nine women Super Falcons stunned Olympic Champions Canada in their World Cup Opening game in the ongoing FIFA Women’s World World Cup in Australia and New Zealand on Friday.

Stand-in captain, Chiamaka Nnadozie picked up the woman of the match award after her exceptional performance earned Super Falcons a goalless.

The Paris FC goalkeeper stopped highly experienced 40-year-old Canada captain, Christine Sinclair’s penalty in the second half of the game at the Rectangular Stadium in Melbourne, Australia.

However, Canada coach, Beverly Priestman, was disappointed with the outcome of the match.

Priestman said: “This is tournament football and if I go to the Olympics Games that we won, we started with a draw, and so we’ve got to move on very quickly.

“You can get lost and be really down on that, and of course the team and I are devastated that we didn’t get three points.

“But at the end of the day, we got one and we took two from another team.”

Nigeria will lock horns with co-host nation, Australia, in their second Group B match on Thursday, July 27 by 11am Nigeria time.

The nine-time African champions would be looking to claim maximum points against Australia, who defeated Republic of Ireland by a single goal.
