Just in: Mass Communication expert, Prof. Lai Oso, dies in auto crash

Journalism profession and the academia have been thrown into mourning following the death of Prof. Lai Oso, a former Dean, School of Communication Studies, Lagos State University (LASU), Ojo.

Persecondnews gathered that he died in an auto crash along Ore-Sagamu Expressway while returning from Abaraka, Delta State on Saturday.

Oso, who hails from Sagamu, Ogun State, was an external examiner at the Department of Mass Communication, Delta State University.

He is the current President, Association of Communication Scholars & Professionals of Nigeria (ACSPN).

He was educated at the University of Lagos (B.Sc. Mass Communication), Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife (M.Sc. International Relations) and He obtained a Ph.D degree in Mass Communication as a Federal Government scholar at the University of Leicester, England in 1977.

He has worked as a Reporter both in Radio and the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) and had taught courses at both undergraduate and post graduate levels.

He has taught courses in Journalism, Media and Governance, Political Communication, Development Communication and theory.

Speaking with our reporter on Sunday, Professor Jide Jimoh of the same department with the late Oso, confirmed the incident.

A lecturer in the same School of Communication, Dr. Suleiman Hassan, confirmed the death of Oso, saying a delegation led by Professor Sunday Alawode of the school was on its way to the Sagamu residence of the late professor on condolence visit.
