Mr Kayode Egbetokun, the Acting Inspector General of Police, has urged Nigerians and stakeholders to partner with the police in its re-modernization and transformative programmes towards actualizing excellence in the discharge of their duties.

The Police Chief made the statement at the handing/taking over ceremony held at the Louis Edet House, Abuja, on Wednesday.

Persecondnews reports that Egbetokun succeeds Mr Usman Alkali to become the 22nd Inspector General of Police since its formation in 1930 in the pre-colonial era.

Egbetokun said he would soon unveil strategic plans to cater for the psychological needs of officers and men to enable them effectively discharge their duties.

As the principal law enforcement agency in the country, the IGP said Police would leverage on technology driven approach to secure the nation.

He said: “The Nigeria Police Force will strive for excellence, transparency, and accountability. We will also include a technology-driven approach to leveraging other techniques to ensure effective and efficient of resources.

“We will provide support structures for police officers that would cater for their physical, and psychological needs. We will introduce programmes to strengthen the minds and hearts of every officer.

“I call on Nigerians to collaborate with the police to build trust, restore confidence in our law enforcement institutions, and create a Nigeria where every citizen stays safe.”

“We will secure the nation,” Egbetokun vowed.
