Former Borno State Health Commissioner, Dr (Mrs.) Salma Ibrahim Ana’s, is the Presidential Adviser on Health.

A recipient of the Bill and Melinda Gates Award as best performing state in the Northeast on polio eradication, the former commissioner served in the first term of Kashim Shettima administration as Governor from 2011-2015.

President Bola Tinubu, at a meeting with the leadership of the health workers union, had disclosed that the health sector is one with a commitment to humanity, we will resolve all the problems..

In line with his mandate in the health sector, Ana’s, who was the Best Commissioner of the Year in the North East in 2013 is poised to redeem the health sector with her 20 years experience on the field.

During her time as commissioner, Borno State ranked as the third in Nigeria in the improvement of maternal health.

She set up rehabilitation centres and a trauma management and psycho-social support system to mitigate the impact of the Boko-Haram insurgency which was at its peak during her tenure.

Before becoming commissioner in 2011, the renowned health expert and humanitarian, had worked at various levels and locations in Nigeria.

The 57-year-old served as National Team Leader (Country Director) for the Nigeria Maternal Newborn and Child Health, a programme supported by the government of the United Kingdom.

Her educational career kicked off in 1978 when she completed her primary education at Shehu Garbai Primary school and proceeded to Government Girl’s College in Maiduguri where she acquired her GCE O’level five years later.

She graduated from the University of Maiduguri as the best graduating student in pediatrics in 1989.

In 1997, she was the best graduating student from the Faculty of Public Health, the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria, and also overall best graduate.
