VP Shettima grieves over Prof. Ajewole’s killing, says we were classmates

Grief-stricken Vice-President Kashim Shettima has expressed shock over the killing of Prof. Opeyemi Ajewole, a renowned Professor of Social and Environmental Forestry, by gunmen in Ibadan.

Persecondnews had reported that Ajewole was gunned down by yet-to-be identified assailants on Monday night in Ibadan, Oyo State capital, while returning home.

In a condolence message personally signed by him, Shettima commiserated with the family of late professor, whom he described as his classmate at the University of Ibadan in the early 1990s.

“I received today the shocking news of the death of Prof. Ajewole who was gunned down by yet-to-be-identified assailants.

“The late Ajewole, a renowned Professor of Social and Environmental Forestry, was my classmate at the University of Ibadan and his untimely death just days after personally congratulating me on my swearing-in, came as a rude shock.

“I condemn the gruesome killing of Ajewole, and wish to express my deep condolences to his family and the University of Ibadan Master Class of 1990. I pray for the repose of his gentle soul,” he said.

Meanwhile, Ajewole’s corpse has been deposited at the morgue of the University College Hospital (UCH).

Persecondnews reports that his car has yet to be recovered by the police as at press time.
