The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) says it will call out workers across the country effective from Wednesday, June 7.

Persecondnews reports that the decision to this effect was taken at the end of the emergency meeting of the National Executive Council (NEC) of the Congress held in Abuja on Friday.

The National President of NLC, Joe Ajaero, told journalists said:“The NLC NEC directs all state councils and industrial unions to commence mobilization from this moment.”

NLC said the strike would begin on Wednesday if the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) fails to reverse the new pump price for petrol of N500 and above.

Persecondnews recalls that President Bola Tinubu had during his inaugural speech on Monday, May 29, announced the scrapping of petrol subsidy by a presidential declaration: “Subsidy is gone.”

Tinubu’s announcement had led to long queues and panic buying with some filling stations across the country fixing the pump price at N600.

On Wednesday, May 31, the NNPCL announced new pump price regime after its Group Chief Executive Officer, Mele Kyari, held a closed-door meeting with Tinubu at the Presidential Villa.

NLC and TUC had held a meeting with representatives of the Federal Government on Wednesday which deadlocked.
