Some yet-to-be apprehended gunmen have killed five policemen and a couple in a horrendous attack at Okpala junction in Ngor Okpala council area of Imo State.

The murdered couple was identified as Mr and Mrs Chinaka Nwagu, Persecondnews reports.

The policemen were ambushed at Okpala junction on Friday at 8.00am. where they came to eat.

The gunmen took away the riffles of the policemen after killing them and thereafter also wasted the couple.

The two policemen who escaped the first ambush were traced down to a nearby shop where they had a little chance of succour and killed them as well as the husband and wife who owned the shop,” a police source said.

“It is a black Friday in our community. Gunmen around 8am shot five policemen dead at Okpala junction. The policemen drove in a white coloured Hilux from Aboh Mbaise Police Division to eat at the junction.

“After killing them, they took their rifles and drove off. This is so unfortunate. Our community is bleeding. Everybody is confused. The couple just relocated from Lagos about one year ago.

“We just deposited their bodies in a mortuary. The market is shut. People here ran away out of shock and fear. This is unbelievable.”

Persecondnews earlier reported how a policeman, Augustine Ukegbu, was killed in the state on Easter day by unknown gunmen at his community in Aboh Mbaise council area.
