Barely seven days to wedding, would-be couple killed in Imo

A would-be couple, whose wedding has been scheduled for consummation on Wednesday, January 18, 2023, has been killed by gunmen in lmo State, Southeast Nigeria.

The man, Eremezie Tochukwu Martin and his would-be spouse, Mba Ifeoma Gloria were reportedly shot dead at Arondizuogu in Ideato North Local Government Area.

Persecondnews reports that the couple and another man were in a commercial tricycle at Arondizuogu when they were attacked on Wednesday evening, killing all the passengers.

In 2022, a female soldier, Lieutenant P.P. Johnson was abducted and tortured by unknown gunmen in Imo visiting her grandmother in Aku-Okigwe community.

She was stripped with her hands and legs tied, sitting on the ground in the forest.

“She was just conferred with the rank of Lieutenant in the Nigerian Army. She passed out on December 17 after being commissioned from the Direct Short Service Course,” a military source had said.

“She was kidnapped at her home in Ibube. She travelled home for the Yuletide celebration.”

Southeast states have become beleaguered in the past months with increased bloody attacks on security agencies and their facilities, government institutions and high-profile individuals.

The proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) whose leader, Nnamdi Kanu, is still in detention, has been linked to the deadly attacks in the region which the group has repeatedly denied its involvement.
