Murder of Lagos female lawyer: Police yet to learn lessons from 2020 #ENDSARS protest — Sowore

With the killing of Lagos lawyer, Mrs Bolanle Raheem in cold blood, the Police have yet to learn any lesson from the 2020 youths’ uprising against the defunct Special Anti-Robbery Squad, a presidential candidate has said.

African Action Congress’ Omoyele Sowore, slammed the Nigeria Police authorities over the murder of the lawyer in broad daylight on Lagos road on Sunday.

Persecondnews recalls that the 2020 #EndSARS protest shook Lagos and some parts of the country, culminating in the killing of some of the protesters by security agents at the Lekki Toll Plaza in Lagos on November 20.

Tribunals were inaugurated across the country with millions of Naira compensations ordered to be paid to families of those killed by the police through extra judicial means.

But several states have yet to implement the judgments of the tribunals.

The Federal Government’s promise of reforming the police force has not been fully fulfilled.

Sowore joined other Nigerians to condemn the killing, saying the system taking the lives of Nigerians must be stopped.

He tweeted: “A trigger-happy @policeng officer has taken the life of this innocent lawyer, Omobolanle Raheem. Sad that Nigeria police haven’t learnt any lesson from the #EndSARS uprising. A system of impunity that is used to snuff life out of Nigerians must be stopped!
#WeCantContinueLikeThis.”

Lagos Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who was accused of inviting soldiers to dislodge the sit-in Lekki Toll Plaza protesters after about 10 days, has also “vowed a speedy justice over the matter”.

The Inspector-General of Police, Mr Usman Alkali Baba, has condemned the shooting and killing of Mrs Omobolanle Raheem.

According to CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, Force Public Relations Officer, Force Headquarters, Abuja, the IGP, who described the incident as unfortunate and sad, had ordered “speedy investigation and prosecution of the officers responsible for the ugly and unprofessional act.”

Persecondnews had reported that a blood thirsty Assistant Superintendent of Police attached to the Ajah Police Station had on Christmas day shot dead the female lawyer.

The killer-cop with his team of policemen, immediately fled the scene but was caught and detained by the police.

The lawyer, her sister, and four children in the car were coming from an eatery in their car at 11am after church service when the ASP tried to stop them under the Ajah Bridge when the cop shot at her vehicle.

The bullet was said to have hit the victim and was rushed to a hospital where she was confirmed dead.

State Police Command’s spokesman, DSP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the incident, saying the killer-officer was already in custody.

“The officer involved in the shooting is an ASP. He has been arrested, detained, and will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti, for further investigations.”
