Anambra, one of the five Southeast states in Nigeria, has recorded yet another horrendous attack with the seizure of four newborn babies by gunmen at a hospital.

Persecondnews reports that abominable attack occurred at maternity hospital at Nkpologwu in Gov. Charles Soludo’s Aguata Local Government Area.

According to residents account, the gunmen numbering six had invaded the facility on Tuesday night following an information about some deliveries being undertaken there.

Residents of the community had woken up to gripping news of the incident on Wednesday morning.

“It happened in our community, and people have been discussing it since Wednesday morning. They said some gunmen stormed the hospital (name withheld) and took away four babies from the hospital.

“From what people are saying in the community, no one was injured, and no one was killed in the attack too. The motive for the invasion of the hospital was not known to anyone.

“Some people say they could have taken the babies to sell them to childless individuals, but others say it could be for ritual purposes,” a resident said.

Contacted, the spokesperson for the State Police Command, DSP Toochukwu Ikenga said: “I don’t have such a report before me now.”

Persecondnews recalls that in June this year barely one month after a member of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Okechukwu Okoye was beheaded by gunmen.

Another former member of the State House of Assembly, Nelson Achukwu, was found beheaded by unknown persons.

The deceased, a lawyer with physical disability, was kidnapped from his home in Ukpor, Nnewi South local government area on June 9, 2022 and his headless body was found by his relatives between the boundary of Uke and Nkpor in Idemili North local government area.

The decomposing body of the late Achukwu had since been buried by his family.

The family source had expressed shock that the late lawmaker was still killed after a ransom of N15 million was paid and in spite of his physically challenged condition.

Some local government headquarters had also been torched since Gov. Soludo was inaugurated.

Anambra Police confirmed the incident and said investigation was ongoing, assuring that the culprits would be arrested and prosecuted.
