Tension, confusion at APC presidential primary as some NWC members raise alarm over alleged ‘doctored’ delegates’ lists

Few hours to the Special Convention of the All Progressive Congress (APC), the National Chairman of the party, Sen. Abdullahi Adamu has been accused of undue partisanship and for allegedly “doctoring” the delegates’ lists submitted for the conduct of the primary holding today in Abuja.

Persecondnews recalls that Adamu on Monday announced the Senate President, Sen. Ahmed Lawal as the party’s “consensus” presidential candidate contrary to the position of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party, President Buhari and the Governors’ forum.

Adamu had on Tuesday dropped the name of President Buhari to back his  claim for a consensus candidate but the Northern Governors forum and the Presidency  in different statements, disowned Adamu’s bid to unilaterally impose a candidate on the party ahead of the 2023 general elections.

In a statement issued by his Senior Special Assistant on Media, Garba Shehu, President Buhari said: “I have no preferred candidate, and have anointed no one, and I am determined to ensure that there shall be no imposition of any candidate on the party”

In the same vein, Chairman of the APC, Northern Governors forum, Simon Lalong of Plateau State, told State House correspondents on Monday that the President had clarified that he had no consensus candidate.

While the alleged illegality is generating furor within the ruling party, some members of the NWC have raised alarm over alleged doctored lists by the national chairman to impose a presidential flag-bearer on the APC.

Some members of the NWC  who spoke on condition on anonymity few hours to the special convention, said the APC Chairman along with some unnamed principal officers of the Senate had perfected plans to present a doctored delegates’ lists for the primary election.

According to one of the sources, a new delegates’ lists for the convention have been written by the APC Chairman and some principal officers of the Senate.

While calling for quick intervention, the members said: “Already, there is confusion as to which list to use going by a recent court pronouncement.”
