He said: “We are making another history, a history we believe will bring about fundamental changes in governance and political processes”.

“We have witnessed another one of the freest elections to be conducted by our great party, today marks another milestone in the process of consolidating our democratic gains.”

On the inter-ethnic disunity and disharmony in the country, Atiku said:

“That is why I referred to myself as a unifier. Unity is very important for us, the government of the APC has disunited Nigeria completely, from North to South, Muslims and Christians and I pledge to restore unity irrespective of the state of origin and religion”.

“I pledge to deal with insecurity and economic challenges caused by the APC government,” he said, adding that the PDP brought about economic prosperity in Nigeria and that the APC came to destroy it.

“Today, it will give us the opportunity to reverse the misgovernance of the APC government.”

According to him, he is ready to work and cooperate with his fellow contestants and give them a sense of belonging in the PDP government.

“It was a well-fought primary election, I looked forward to working with you so that we can build this party to a level where we can take over the government.”

On members who had defected to other parties, Atiku urged all aggrieved members to return to the fold, adding that he and others would ensure that their grievances were resolved within the party.

Persecondnews reports that Atiku defeated his closest challenger, Gov. Nyesom Wike of Rivers State, who poled 237 votes, while a former President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki, scored 70 votes.

Gov. Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom State got 38 votes; Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, scored 20 votes; a former Senate President, Pius Anyim, got 14 votes, while a former President of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria, Sam Ohuabunwa, polled only one vote.
