Few hours of runway shutdown over security breach, flight operations resume at Lagos airport

After shutting down the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, lkeja, following a security breach, flight operations resumed on Friday afternoon.

The mangled body of a man found on the runway has been evacuated.

The International Wing of the airport, was temporarily shut in the early hours of Thursday.

“Full flight operations have resumed after the runway was cleared of the mangled corpse of a yet-to-be-identified man,” an official said.

While the shutdown lasted, international flights were prevented from landing and taking off from the airport’s international terminal.

Flights were diverted to neighbouring countries to allow for the evacuation.

Persecondnews had reported that the dead body was discovered on Runway 18R during a routine inspection by Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria  personnel.

Officials of FAAN and the Nigeria Police carried out the evacuation, it was learnt.
