Barely after eight months in office, the Statistician-General of the Federation, Mr Simon Harry, has passed on.
Harry, whose age was not given, died from an undisclosed illness on Wednesday.
“It is not a rumor anymore, the SG is dead, he died from an illness,” the Director, Communication and Public Relations Department in the office, Ichedi Joel, confirmed on Wednesday in Abuja.
Harry was appointed by President Muhammadu Buhari as the Statistician-General of the Federation in August 2021.
He joined the Federal Office of Statistics as Statistician 11 in 1992 and rose to the position of a substantive Director of Statistics in 2019.
Persecondnews recalls that Harry’s death came barely 48 hours after the office denied rumours of his death.
Details about his death are still sketchy but Harry was said to have fallen ill on Saturday and was immediately rushed to a medical facility where he passed on.
