The political influence and dominance of Kaduna Governor Nasir El-Rufai appears to be waning as the unusual happened in the just-concluded September 4 local government election in the state.

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) won at El-Rufai’s polling unit.

El-Rufai lost his 01 Polling Unit, Ungwan Sarki area of Kaduna North Local Government Area.

Announcing the results, the Presiding Officer, Mr Muhammad Sani, said out of total votes cast (159), the PDP polled 86 as against 62 by APC in the council chairmanship election.

PDP also defeated APC in the Councillorship election at the unit by polling100 votes against APC’s 53.

Persecondnews recalls that El-Rufai had scored the voting process high, assuring that the outcome of the polls should be acceptable by all the parties.

According to him, it was nearly impossible to rig it the elections because of the electronic voting machine used for the exercise.

The governor said the election was an improvement over the 2018 local government elections which was characterized by multiple voting.

Voters in the state had trooped out on Saturday in the 19 of the 23 Local Government Areas to exercise their civic responsibilities by electing Chairmen and Councillors.

Saturday’s exercise was the second local government polls to be held in the state since 2018 using electronic voting machine.
