Barely two weeks after their retirement, the five immediate past Service Chiefs have been nominated as non-career Ambassadors-designate.

Well-meaning Nigerians, governors and the leadership of the National Assembly had called for the sack of the service chiefs on grounds of non-performance and escalating insecurity in the country.

President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday forwarded the names of the Service Chiefs to the Senate for confirmation, according to a statement by Mr Femi Adesina, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity and obtained by Persecondnews.

They are retired Gen. Abayomi G. Olonisakin , retired Lt.-Gen. Tukur Y. Buratai, retired Vice-Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas, retired Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, and retired Air Vice Marshal Mohammed S. Usman.

Buhari said in a letter to Senate President Ahmad Lawan, that the appointments were in accordance with Section 171 (1), (2) (c) & sub-section (4) of 1999 Constitution (as amended).

He urged the lawmakers to give the nominations expeditious consideration.
