The Inspector-General of Police, Mr Mohammed Adamu has said that the reforms being carried out in FSARS and other Special Tactical Units of the Force would put an end  to extral-judicial killings in the country.

He said the reforms would also rid the police of bad eggs.

“I want to re-affirm my commitment to the ongoing reforms in the Nigeria Police Force, especially as it concerns the activities of the Federal Anti-robbery Squad (FSARS) and other Special Tactical Units of the Force.

“All the already announced measures aimed at checkmating future occurrence of extra-judicial activities by some personnel of FSARS and other Tactical Units of the Force will be followed to the latter,” he said.

The IGP spoke during a courtesy call on him by the Minister of Youth and Sports, Mr Sunday Dare at the Force Headquarters, Abuja.

Persecondnews recalls that on Sunday in Lagos, the IGP who announced the arrest of two FSARS and their civilian accomplice found wanting in their duties, promptly ordered the operatives to vacate roadblocks.

“Similar FSARS reforms carried out on the operatives on zonal basis two years ago has not addressed this nefarious activities among them.

Adamu called on citizens to exercise patience as the reforms in FSARS are still in progress.

Meanwhile, the Force spokesman, DCP Frank Mba, in a statement said the IGP has assured that some of the officers involved the unruly and unprofessional conduct in their dealings with the citizens, particularly the youth, have been arrested and are already facing disciplinary actions.

The Minister commended the IGP for his prompt response in tackling the issues and called for stronger collaboration and mutual understanding between the Police and the youth.

He also called for regular town hall meetings at various State Commands which will involve the Police spokespersons, Civil Society Organisations (CSO) and other critical stakeholders to strengthen the synergy between the police and the citizens, especially youths.
