Brazil – based comedy troupe Porta dos Fundos movie depicting Jesus Christ as gay sparked controversy among the Christian community across the globe.

The film “The First Temptation of Christ” was released  early December depicts Jesus paying a visit – along with close friend named Orlando to parents Mary and Joseph for the savior’s 30th birthday, in trailer watched by Per Second News.

The 46-minute, Portuguese-language special paints Jesus as a closeted homosexual as he returns home for Christmas and implies he is in a relationship with his male friend Orlando.

“Jesus, who’s hitting the big 3-0, brings a surprise guest to meet the family,” the official Netflix description reads. “A Christmas special so wrong, it must be from comedians Porta dos Fundos.”

Since the film was released on Netflix there has been a backlash from a large number of people, with a petition calling for it to be removed from the streaming site currently sitting at 1.8 million signatures at the time of writing.

Eduardo Bolsonaro, son of the right-wing Brazilian president Jair Bolsonaro, took to social media to blast the film.

He wrote: “We support freedom of expression, but is it worth attacking the belief of 86 percent of the population?”

Religious leaders in Nigeria also took to social media sites to voice their concern over the film.
