Sunday Meshioye, a staff member of University of Lagos (Unilag), has committed suicide, according to an investigation.

The deceased, who had been probed by a disciplinary panel set up to investigate an incident involving him, took his own life by drinking a brand of insecticide called Sniper.

Most suicides recorded recently have been traced to drinking of the lethal chemical which led to its sale in the open market by the Federal Government.

A bank manager had in July drank Sniper and killed himself at his Victoria Island residence, leaving a suicide note in which he apologised to the wife and three-year-old only child.

It was learnt that the deceased, a driver at Sociology Department, allegedly lost the university bus he was driving in a mysterious fire.

“Meshioye took the deadly pesticide on Wednesday, September 11, a day after facing the disciplinary panel,’’ a source at the university told Persecondnews.

In an apparent move to save his life, Meshioye, a father of three, was rushed to the university’s health centre and thereafter transferred to the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), Idi Araba, area where he gave up the ghost.

Lagos State Police spokesman, DSP Bala Elkana, confirmed the incident.
