Nigeria says it has raised $1.6bn to raise power geneneration to 20,000 MWs by 2021

A newly raised $1.6 billion will help the Nigerian goverment expand its power generation by as much as 400 percent by 2012, the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) manager, Usman Mohammed said.
The Nigerian government currently generates 4,000 megawatts (MW) of power but said it will generate as much as 20,000MWs in two years, thanks to $1.6 billion raised to ensure massive investments in substation and lines, Mohammed said in Suleija, Niger state during the inauguration of a power station in the state.
“We have raise $1.623 billion, all these are investments in substations and lines. They are also going to expand the lines. If you look at the Abuja DisCo AEDC for example, we have completed the evaluation of the transmission string and that will put two additional 330KV, in Abuja,” he said.
According to him, the government “came up with a transmission expansion and rehabilitation programme under which we have different ways of fixing transmission under this plan we have a development plan to expand the grid to 20,000 MW by 2021, I want to tell you we are still on track, we will expand the grid to 20,000 MW by 2021,” he said.
