Senator Iyiola Omisore,  has dumped the Peoples Democratic Party for the Social Democratic Party where he said he intend to contest the State of Osun governorship election in September.

” Our quest for an alternative political platform is basically in pursuit of a credible political structure that would guarantee that our people enjoy the benefits of accountable leadership at the state level from now, he said on Sunday.

“Notwithstanding my enormous contributions over the past years or so to building the PDP, after very deep thought and the widest consultations with my God, my family, my supporters in and outside Osun state, It is with great concern that I have made a very expedient decision today, to withdraw my membership from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and join the Social Democratic Party (SDP); a party that believed in a balanced, equitable and truly functional Nigeria.”

Last month Per Second News in a report said some aggrieved members of the party in the Omisore camp burnt the party’s flag at the secretariat in Osun state.

Director-General of the Omisore Faction, Bade Falade claimed that the election which saw the emergence of Mr Soji Adagunodo as the state chairman was conducted illegally as there was a court injunction restraining the conduct of the congresses.

Falade said that the aggrieved members decided to burn the PDP flag at the Ogooluwa secretariat to show their grouse towards the National working committee.

Omisore was Deputy Governor of Osun State from 1999–2003. He previously served as a member of the Nigerian Senate for Osun East from 2003 to 2011.
