Nigeria’s High Commissioner to Jamaica, Dr. Jane Bassey Adams, has unveiled a “New Dawn” vision for Nigeria-Jamaica relations, seeking to translate the countries’ strong historical and cultural affinity into tangible economic and developmental outcomes.
Adams said her mission would focus on reinvigorating bilateral engagement and identifying new opportunities for cooperation while strengthening existing partnerships between Nigeria and Jamaica.
She identified trade and investment, health, culture, technology, tourism and education as key areas requiring stronger and mutually beneficial partnerships between both countries.
The High Commissioner stated this while presenting her Letters of Credence to Jamaica’s Governor-General, His Excellency the Most Honourable Sir Patrick Linton Allen, at King’s House, Kingston, on September 10, 2026.
During the ceremony, Adams conveyed the warmest greetings and best wishes of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to the Governor-General, the Government and people of Jamaica.
According to a statement emailed to PerSecondNews by Foreign Affairs Ministry spokesperson Oluwafemi Adeniyi on Friday, she described the presentation of her credentials as a significant milestone in Nigeria-Jamaica relations, highlighting the enduring historical bonds, shared heritage and strong kinship between the two countries.
“The peoples of Nigeria and Jamaica share deep cultural and ancestral connections, as well as a common commitment to freedom, progress and national development.”
Adams expressed determination to work closely with the Jamaican authorities and other stakeholders to identify new areas of cooperation and consolidate existing partnerships.
“Nigeria and Jamaica maintain longstanding cordial relations anchored on shared history, mutual respect and common interests, with cooperation spanning tourism, education, sports and cultural exchanges,” she noted.
She stated: “The two countries have also strengthened cooperation at the multilateral level, particularly through the Commonwealth of Nations and the United Nations, where they advance shared interests on matters of global significance.”
Adams affirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to working with Jamaica to explore new opportunities for enhanced bilateral cooperation and ensure that the fraternal ties between both countries continue to deliver meaningful and mutually beneficial outcomes.
