Rising tension between FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and APC governors over 2027 political mobilisation needs to end, according to Ima Niboro.
Speaking on Arise TV on Wednesday monitored by PerSecondNews, the APC Presidential Campaign Council spokesperson urged both factions to channel their energy into winning voters rather than exchange blame.
According to him, the disagreements between Wike and the APC governors should not overshadow their shared objective of securing President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.
“They are all agreed that President Bola Tinubu must return in 2027. So, we need to find a way to tone down this rhetoric and reduce the battle flying from all directions,” he said.
Niboro rejected Wike’s description of APC governors as politically lazy, saying governors wield significant political influence under Nigeria’s constitutional structure.
“I do not consider anybody saying APC governors are lazy. I think these are just the same kind of hot epithets flying around, and there is no serious consideration behind them,” he noted.
He maintained that governors should focus on consolidating their political influence rather than responding to public criticisms from Wike and other political actors.
“Governors are very, very powerful people. Governors, because of the nature of our Constitution, can sometimes really bring changes even to the centre. So, I do not agree with that,” Niboro stated.
Niboro urged the governors and Wike to take their political activities to the grassroots and demonstrate their strength through engagement with voters.
He added: “Go and work and establish authority on your political base. Get on the television cameras, go to the people, go to the streets, go to the marketplaces and go and win people.”
On the role of Tinubu in resolving the disagreements, Niboro described the President as an experienced politician capable of managing competing interests within the political camp.
“The President is an astute, very experienced politician. I think he is networking these people. This is some kind of quarrel, and these are issues that happen when you have big parties,” he said.
Niboro said the disagreements were part of the tensions that could emerge within a large political organisation, stressing the need for the issues to be properly managed.
He recalled that internal disagreements within political parties could eventually create divisions, citing the experience of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, when it controlled the Federal Government.
“The current disagreement should be managed in a manner that does not undermine the broader political objective of securing Tinubu’s return in 2027.”
