Parents and guardians of students in Federal Unity Colleges have been urged to proceed with preparations and send their children back to school on Monday, September 14, as the Federal Government assures them of a safe resumption.
The Federal Ministry of Education gave the assurance on Friday, noting that necessary arrangements are in place to support a safe, smooth and seamless commencement of the new academic session.
Dr. Maruf Olatunji Alausa, the Minister of Education, emphasized that the safety and wellbeing of students and staff remain central to the Federal Government’s commitment to providing a secure and conducive environment for teaching and learning.
“Relevant security agencies have been duly informed of the resumption arrangements and are maintaining heightened vigilance around the Federal Unity Colleges and their immediate environments,” he said in a statement emailed to PerSecondNews on Friday by the Director Press and Public Relations, Folasade Boriwo.
According to the minister, coordinated efforts are aimed at safeguarding students, staff and school communities as academic activities resume across the country.
Alausa urged parents and guardians to remain calm, rely on official information and proceed with their preparations, ensuring that their children and wards return to their respective Federal Unity Colleges on Monday as scheduled.
“School authorities are directed to maintain close coordination with relevant security agencies and other appropriate authorities to facilitate an orderly and secure resumption,” PerSecondNews quotes him as saying.
The Minister called on students, parents, teachers, school administrators and other stakeholders to work together in maintaining a peaceful, supportive and secure school environment, stressing that the safety and wellbeing of learners remain a shared responsibility.
“The Federal Ministry of Education will continue to monitor developments and take all necessary measures, in collaboration with the appropriate authorities, to ensure the smooth and safe resumption of academic activities in all Federal Unity Colleges nationwide,”he added.
The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s education system and ensuring that Nigerian children have access to quality education in a safe and conducive learning environment.
“The commitment is in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which recognises education and human capital development as essential to Nigeria’s sustainable growth and national development,”he noted.
