The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has rejected claims that the 2026 WASSCE results were manipulated, maintaining that its strict marking, moderation, and auditing standards guarantee absolute accuracy.
The Council expressed concern over growing public skepticism, specifically calling out social media commentators and content creators for spreading doubts about the credibility of the newly released results.
While welcoming constructive scrutiny as part of its accountability to candidates, parents, schools and the wider public, WAEC maintained that the 2026 WASSCE for school candidates was conducted strictly in line with its established standard operational procedures.
It added that the examination was conducted in keeping with relevant educational policies and in cooperation with the Federal Ministry of Education, stressing that its processes have guided its operations for decades.
WAEC said every candidate’s script undergoes several levels of assessment, including marking, moderation and auditing, with standardised marking schemes and vetted subject experts deployed to ensure objective and fair scoring.
“Every candidate’s script undergoes a multi-tiered system of marking, moderation, and auditing,” it stated.

The examination body acknowledged that anxiety over examination outcomes is typical, particularly among candidates seeking to proceed to the next level of their academic pursuits and urged the public to exercise caution over unverified claims.
“WAEC maintains clear procedures for addressing queries or grievances. Guidance on query resolutions is available via the Council’s offices nationwide and online channels for information dissemination.”

WAEC reiterated its unwavering commitment to preserving the integrity of its assessment processes and safeguarding the interests of every candidate.
