Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has revealed how security forces averted a bomb plot targeting the State Government House.

Speaking on Channels TV’s Politics Today, monitored by Persecondnews, Aiyedatiwa explained that intelligence reports uncovered the plan well before the suspected attackers could strike, marking one of several major security breakthroughs in the state.

The Governor noted that intelligence gathered a few months ago flagged a youth group plotting the assault on the seat of government.

According to him, the suspects had initially checked into a hotel before moving to a rented apartment to finalize their preparations.

Acting swiftly, a joint team of police officers and Amotekun Corps personnel raided the location, arrested the suspects, and recovered materials linked to the plot, he said.

“Following intelligence reports, the police and Amotekun moved in, raided the location, arrested the suspects, and they remain in custody.”

Aiyedatiwa noted that investigations are ongoing to unravel the motive behind the alleged attack and determine whether other individuals were involved.

The governor said the incident underscores the critical role intelligence gathering plays in combating insecurity, stressing that many successful security operations often remain unknown to the public because attacks are prevented before they occur.

“So much work is being done. Security is one responsibility that leaders carry that is not always visible. It is only when there is a lapse that people begin to question the efforts being made. We have been doing so much,” he said.

The Governor disclosed that South-West chief executives have intensified regional security efforts through structured intelligence sharing and closer coordination among state-backed agencies, specifically the Amotekun Corps.

The disclosure follows Governor Aiyedatiwa’s commendation of the judiciary after the conviction of four individuals connected to the June 5, 2022 terrorist attack on St. Francis Catholic Church in Owo.

Describing the judgment as a landmark victory for justice, he stated it sends a powerful message against impunity.

He reiterated his administration’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding the state through advanced surveillance and proactive security partnerships.
