FCTA to Hotels, Event Centres: Host Illegal Political Groups and Face Title Revocation

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has cautioned proprietors of hotels, event centers, and other public facilities in Abuja against permitting unlawful organizations to use their premises, noting that violators risk the revocation of their property titles.

The directive was communicated on Friday in a statement released by Mr. Lere Olayinka, the Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to the FCT Minister.

The statement reiterated that land allocations within the Federal Capital Territory are designated exclusively for lawful enterprises, and affirmed that the administration will not hesitate to revoke the title documents of any facility found hosting unauthorized entities.

The FCTA explained that the directive forms part of measures aimed at strengthening security and supporting efforts to maintain peace and order in the nation’s capital.

“In view of the need to further ensure the security of lives and properties in the FCT and sustain the efforts of security agencies in this regard, usage of event centres, hotels and other public buildings will now be closely monitored,” it said.

It added that the monitoring was intended to prevent such facilities from being used for activities capable of disrupting peace in Abuja.

The administration advised owners and operators of public facilities to verify the legality of organisations seeking to use their premises and properly ascertain the purpose of such gatherings before approving bookings.

The FCTA also urged operators to be cautious in dealing with political groups, especially as political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections begin to intensify.

It directed hotel and event centre owners to ensure they only engage with leadership recognised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) when dealing with political parties and to keep proper records of all transactions.

FCTA cautioned that failure to comply with the directive would attract severe consequences, including revocation of property titles.
