The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has received 181 Nigerian returnees from Tripoli, Libya, as part of ongoing efforts to support distressed citizens abroad.

Persecondnews reports that the announcement was contained in the official x account of the agency.

It disclosed that the returnees arrived on April 27, 2026, at about 20:13 hours at the cargo terminal of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, aboard an Air Buraq Airline flight.

NEMA said the operation was carried out in collaboration with the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI) under the Assisted Voluntary Return (AVR) programme facilitated by the International Organization for Migration (IOM), in partnership with the Federal Government of Nigeria.

A breakdown shared by NEMA indicated that 159 of the returnees were adults, 64 males and 95 females, while 12 were children (5 males and 7 females), and 10 were infants (6 males and 4 females).

The agency further noted that officials of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) conducted biometric registration and documentation upon arrival to ensure proper identification and facilitate reintegration.

It added that the returnees were provided with immediate humanitarian assistance and psychosocial counselling.

NEMA said the reception exercise was conducted in an orderly manner through effective collaboration among stakeholders, reaffirming the Federal Government’s commitment to ensuring the safe, dignified, and humane return of Nigerians stranded abroad.
