In a move to position Nigeria as a leader in the global digital race, the Federal Government has opened strategic dialogue with Russia to harness the power of artificial intelligence.

Minister Kingsley Udeh hosted Russian Trade Commissioner Max Petrov on Wednesday to discuss how both nations can collaborate on smart systems and tech-driven employment.

Writing on his verified X page, the Minister framed the meeting as a “golden opportunity” to translate international diplomacy into measurable outcomes for Nigeria’s youth and its burgeoning innovation ecosystem.

“Our discussions focused on translating diplomacy into measurable technological outcomes that support economic diversification, job creation and global competitiveness,” Udeh said.

During the engagement, the minister disclosed that talks covered potential partnerships in artificial intelligence and robotics, renewable energy technologies, and advanced engineering.

He said the conversation also spotlighted digital transformation and smart systems, placing strong emphasis on research, development and technology transfer.

“We also examined structured partnerships in STEM education, scholarships, academic exchanges and technical training in priority areas such as robotics, drone technologies for agriculture and industrial automation,” Udeh said.

The minister stressed that the government is focused on achieving effective knowledge transfer, capacity development and the commercialisation of innovation for national growth.

Highlighting Russia’s enthusiasm for the partnership, the Minister revealed that the Federation is eager to shift from discussion to delivery.

He reiterated that the Ministry’s focus will remain on fostering “actionable programmes” and joint technical committees.

By building these enabling environments, the Federal Government aims to secure significant technology investments and cement Nigeria’s reputation as Africa’s leading center for innovation.
