Aftermath of Boko Haram Massacre, Tinubu Orders Army Battalion Deployment to Kwara

Following a bloody terrorist attack in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara, President Bola Tinubu has ordered an army battalion deployment to the state to restore order.

Boko Haram militants had reportedly killed at least 75 people, including women and children, in the villages of Woro and Nuku on Tuesday night.

According to Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, the massacre was a retaliatory act after villagers refused to adopt the group’s extremist “doctrine.”

Condemning the attack as a “cowardly” act against soft targets, President Tinubu vowed that the insurgents’ campaign of terror is doomed to fail.

He highlighted the victims’ bravery in resisting forced indoctrination, lamenting the “beastly” nature of the killings.

“It’s commendable that the community members, even though Muslims, refused to be conscripted into a weird belief that promoted violence over peace and dialogue,” Tinubu said.

The President directed the new military command to spearhead Operation Savannah Shield with the mandate to neutralise the terrorists and provide protection for vulnerable communities in the area.

President Tinubu further called for seamless collaboration between federal and state agencies to provide immediate relief to survivors and ensure the attackers are brought to justice.

Extending his deepest condolences to the bereaved families, the people of Kaiama, and the Kwara State government, he offered prayers for the souls of the departed.

This deadly incursion by Boko Haram factions—specifically Jama’atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda’awati wal-Jihad (JAS)—highlights the alarming expansion of Islamist extremism from the Northeast into Nigeria’s North-Central region.

Security experts point to porous borders with the Niger and Benin Republics, as well as the dense terrain of Kainji Lake National Park, as key factors enabling this shift.

Persecondnews recalls that the massacre follows a troubling surge in banditry and terror-related incidents across Kwara, fueling urgent security concerns throughout the state.
