Vice President Kashim Shettima has touched down in Conakry, Guinea, to represent President Bola Tinubu at the inauguration of President-elect Mamady Doumbouya, marking a significant moment in West African diplomacy.

Shettima’s arrival on Friday was met with a warm reception from senior Guinean officials and Nigerian diplomats, setting the stage for a crucial event in the region.

The inauguration ceremony, scheduled for Saturday at the GLC Stadium in Nongo, will formally conclude Guinea’s four-year military transition, following Doumbouya’s victory in the December 2025 general elections.

“The Vice President’s attendance at the inauguration affirms Nigeria’s leadership role within the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and its commitment to the restoration of constitutional order across the sub-region,” said Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant to the Vice President on Media and Communications on his official X handle.

Nkwocha emphasized that Shettima’s presence demonstrates Nigeria’s dedication to promoting democratic governance and regional stability.

Persecondnews reports that President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda, Nigeria is positioning itself as a stabilizing force in West Africa, advocating for democratic governance as a prerequisite for regional prosperity.

“Under President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda, Nigeria has continued to position itself as a stabilising force, advocating for democratic governance as a prerequisite for regional prosperity,” Nkwocha stated.

The visit also aims to strengthen economic ties between Nigeria and Guinea, with opportunities for trade and investment on the agenda.

“The visit also serves as a strategic mission to expand the economic corridor between the two West African nations,” Nkwocha added.
