Mohamed Salah, Liverpool’s talisman since 2017, has sensationally requested to leave the club, citing an irreparable breakdown in his relationship with manager Arne Slot and a profound feeling of disrespect from the club’s hierarchy.
The Egyptian star’s frustration was reportedly triggered by his recent benching, which escalated his concerns about his long-term future at Anfield.
“I deserve more respect,” Salah said in a scathing interview.
“I’ve given so much to the club, and I shouldn’t have to fight every three days just to get my position because I have the right to play based on what I’ve given before.”
Salah, 33, has been dropped from Slot’s team for the last three games, including the 3-3 draw at Leeds United, and has hinted that he could bid farewell to Anfield supporters on Saturday before heading to the African Cup of Nations on December 15.
“I don’t know what is going to happen now, but I will be in Anfield to say goodbye to the fans and go.”
The Liverpool legend has been linked with a move to Saudi Arabia, and his latest comments have fueled speculation about his future.
“I don’t accept this situation,” Salah said. “I have done so much for this club, and I feel like I’ve been thrown under the bus. I think it’s very clear that someone wanted me to get all of the blame.”
Salah’s impressive record at Liverpool includes 250 goals, making him the club’s third-highest scorer.
He has won two Premier League titles and has been instrumental in the club’s success.
However, his current contract, signed in April, is set to expire next season, and there are doubts about whether he will see it out.
“I have been at this club, scoring more than anyone in this generation,” Salah said.
“I remember a while ago, Harry Kane was not scoring for 10 games, and everyone in the media was like ‘oh, Harry will score for sure’. When it comes to me, everyone is like ‘he needs to be on the bench’. I don’t get it.”
