Former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson stirred excitement at the 2025 Imo State Economic Summit in Owerri by declaring that Nigeria could be credited with sending the UK its future Prime Minister, Kemi Badenoch.

Addressing government officials and investors, the former Prime Minister, known for his flamboyant rhetoric, described the exchange of people between the two nations as a “huge blessing” that shapes both countries’ politics, commerce, and culture.

Johnson encouraged Nigeria to take pride in the fact that one of its own is now considered a future British leader.

“We send you former UK prime ministers,” Johnson quipped, “and you send us future UK prime minister in the form of Kemi Badenoch, who comes from Nigeria and is doing better and better these days.”

Praising the long-standing relationship, Johnson highlighted that the shared history, language, and cultural exchanges make the UK-Nigeria partnership natural and mutually beneficial.

He insisted that the real strength of their ties goes beyond trade, resting in “the things we do together, the things we do in partnership.”

Johnson’s comments added an unexpected diplomatic dimension to the Imo State Economic Summit, which aims to attract investment and reposition the state’s economy.
