President Bola Tinubu has commended the Nigerian Senate for the speedy screening and approval of Gen. Christopher Musa as the new Defence Minister.

Musa, the immediate past Chief of Defence Staff, was confirmed on Wednesday after a thorough screening process.

“I want to commend the Nigerian Senate for its expedited confirmation of General Musa yesterday. God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” Tinubu wrote on X.

The President’s nomination of Musa was seen as a strategic move to strengthen Nigeria’s security architecture, given the country’s current security challenges.

At his screening, Musa assured lawmakers of his commitment to serve Nigeria diligently, emphasizing the need for collective effort to address the country’s security issues.

“I believe that the challenges we are facing is a Nigerian challenge, not only for the armed forces or security forces, but for everyone working together,” he said.

Musa also called for an end to ransom payments to kidnappers, bandits, and terrorists, stating that negotiating with criminals only emboldens them.

“There should be no negotiation with criminals. If you negotiate with them, they will never abide by it.

“They use the money to buy more arms,” he said.

The former defence chief also pledged to ensure thorough recruitment into the armed forces.
