Oluebube Umejiaku’s brilliant opener and 15-year-old Mary Dunstan’s fine second-half strike powered Nigeria’s Flamingoes past Mexico and into the U-17 World Cup quarter-finals.
Dunstan made the Mohammed VI Football Complex (Pitch 2) in Salé, silent on Thursday after carefully guiding a whipped ball into the box to make it 2-0 at the 71st minute, before Mexico pulled one back deep in stoppage time.
The Flamingoes clung on through the 90+10 minute mark to secure the 2-1 victory and the three points that sealed their last-eight.
