Nigeria is expanding access to its tertiary education system internationally, with the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) working towards establishing a UTME examination centre in Ottawa, Canada, from 2027.

Prof. Segun Aina, the Registrar of JAMB, discussed the proposed centre during a visit to the Nigerian High Commission in Ottawa, the board disclosed on its official ‘X’ account, obtained by PerSecondNews, on Monday.

According to the Board, the initiative reflects JAMB’s commitment to making the UTME more accessible, inclusive and globally connected, while opening more pathways for Nigerians in the diaspora to access tertiary education in Nigeria.

“The proposed centre will provide eligible Nigerians in Canada and other parts of North America with easier access to the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination,” it noted.

JAMB emphasized that the opportunity, will enable candidates to sit for the examination without travelling to Nigeria solely for the exercise, particularly those seeking admission into Nigerian tertiary institutions.

The move is also expected to strengthen the connection between Nigerians abroad and the Nigerian education system while creating greater opportunities to showcase Nigerian tertiary education internationally.
