Sen. Abubakar Kyari, Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, has urged security agencies to intensify operations to bring those responsible for killing 15 farmers in Borno State to justice.

Kyari also called for urgent efforts to locate three persons reportedly still missing after the attack in Marte Local Government Area of the state.

The minister condemned the killings by suspected terrorists and described the victims as innocent Nigerians working to earn a living.

“These innocent Nigerians lost their lives while working on their farms to earn a living and contribute to the food security of our nation,” he said in a statement emailed to PerSecondNews on Sunday.

Kyari described the killings as an attack not only on innocent lives and livelihoods but also on Nigeria’s collective efforts to achieve food security.

He extended condolences to the families of the victims, the people of Marte, Governor Babagana Umara Zulum, and the Government and people of Borno State.

The minister reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda to creating an environment where farmers can cultivate their lands safely and productively.

Kyari further commended security agencies for their efforts to protect farming communities.

“Protecting our farmers is protecting Nigeria’s food security,” the minister declared.

He prayed that Almighty Allah would grant the deceased eternal rest and comfort their families, while continuing to protect farmers, rural communities and the nation.

PerSecondNews recalls that the 15 farmers were killed after suspected terrorists ambushed farmers and others gathering firewood in parts of Marte between Wednesday evening and Thursday morning, while three others remained missing.
