Gospel singer Asu Ekiye has publicly announced the end of his 28-year marriage to his wife, Kunemofa Asu, revealing that the couple actually separated about a year ago.
In a candid statement shared on his social media platforms obtained by PerSecondNews, Ekiye explained that disclosing the split was a deeply personal choice reached after years of reflection, shared growth, and life experiences
The singer said he was making the announcement with “a profound sense of sobriety and quiet resignation,” revealing that his marriage to Kunemofa had come to an end.
“After 28 years of a deeply personal journey of growth, experience and reflection, I wish to announce, with a profound sense of sobriety and quiet resignation, that my marriage to Kunemofa Asu has come to an end,” he stated.
According to Ekiye, although the marriage was significant and memorable, he had decided to close that chapter of his life with grace, gratitude and dignity.
“Some chapters, however significant and memorable, eventually come to an end. I choose to close this chapter with grace, gratitude and dignity, while looking ahead to the possibilities of a new season,” he wrote.
The gospel singer clarified that the marriage did not end recently, explaining that the couple had actually gone their separate ways about a year ago.
“For the avoidance of doubt, this marriage ended a year ago,” Ekiye said.
He explained that he deliberately waited before making the development public, choosing to allow time to provide the perspective, clarity and quiet acceptance he felt the deeply personal transition required.
Ekiye’s announcement brings to an end a 28-year chapter of his personal life, as he now looks ahead to what he described as “the possibilities of a new season.”
PerSecondNews reports that the singer did not disclose the circumstances that led to the end of the marriage, choosing instead to focus on acceptance and moving forward.
