Popular Nigerian highlife singer, Flavour, has opened up on a difficult chapter in his early life, revealing that he battled masturbation addiction for about two years before eventually breaking free from it.
The award-winning artiste made the revelation during a TikTok live session with friends, where he recounted how the habit started after he lost his virginity and later lost contact with the woman involved.
According to him, the absence of a sexual partner pushed him into masturbation, a habit he said gradually became an addiction after a friend introduced him to Congolese Mapouka dance videos.
“I became addicted to masturbation for about two years. It got so bad that I couldn’t relate freely with my friends anymore. Even when we were watching football together, I was always feeling ashamed,” he said.
Flavour further disclosed that the addiction became so intense that he “even used liquid soap” while struggling with it.
Recalling his efforts to stop, the singer said he first sought spiritual help from his mother’s pastor, whom he described as a guidance and counselling expert.
“He asked me to go on a 21-day fast and gave me prayer points. I did everything, but just a few days after the fasting ended, I went back to it again,” he said.
The singer explained that he later confided in a bassist he used to perform with, who believed the problem was largely a result of his youthful age and lack of regular sexual activity.
“He took me to a brothel and paid for me to sleep with a woman. After that, I started using the money I made from playing musical instruments to visit brothels almost every week,” Flavour recounted.
The singer said those experiences eventually helped him put the addiction behind him, bringing an end to what he described as one of the most challenging periods of his life.
