Fashion designer Veekee James has defended her decision to attend public events with her husband, Femi Atere, saying their marriage is built on a shared life rather than separate social identities.
The celebrity designer reacted after a social media user questioned why Atere was almost always seen accompanying her to outings, suggesting that he did not have an independent life outside their marriage.
Responding in a video shared on her Snapchat account on Sunday obtained by Persecondnews, Veekee dismissed the criticism, insisting that she and her husband intentionally choose to do life together.
According to her, there is nothing unusual about their closeness because they both see themselves as one, explaining that neither of them lives independently of the other.
“Yes, my husband does not have a life of his own. His life is my life, the same way I don’t have a life of my own,” she said.
She went on to describe their relationship as inseparable, comparing their union to a padlock and its key.
“My life is his life. He is me and I am him. Together we are like padlock and key,” she added.
Veekee also criticised the notion that married couples should deliberately maintain separate lifestyles, arguing that such opinions reflect a misunderstanding of the meaning of marriage.
She maintained that every couple is free to define their marriage as they choose, stressing that those who prefer a different arrangement are at liberty to practise it in their own homes.
