In a sweeping move to revamp leadership across Nigeria’s para-sports sector, the National Sports Commission has dissolved the governing boards of six federations, effective immediately.
The commission, in a statement on Monday by Kola Daniel, Special Adviser on Media to the DG NSC, expressed deep gratitude to the presidents, vice presidents, board members, and all stakeholders for their commitment, hard work, and significant contributions throughout their tenure.
The move aligns with the NSC’s continuous drive to enhance governance structures, promote accountability, and ensure that the process of selecting new leaders in the federations follows principles of fairness, transparency, and credibility.
The federations affected by the dissolution are the Amputee Football Federation, Para Athletics Federation, Para Powerlifting Federation, Para Swimming Federation, Para Soccer Federation, and Para Volleyball Federation.
All former board members have been directed to hand over federation properties, records, documents, and official duties without delay to the Secretaries-General, who will now handle the day-to-day administration until fresh boards are elected and inaugurated.
The NSC assured athletes, coaches, technical officials, partners, sponsors, and the sporting public that adequate arrangements are in place to maintain seamless operations and ongoing activities across the federations during the transition period.
Information on the election modalities, timelines, and procedures will be made available through the National Sports Commission’s official communication channels in the coming days, it announced.
The commission affirmed its dedication to fostering good governance, institutional excellence, and long-term growth in Nigerian sports while supporting an environment that enables athletes and sports administrators to reach their full potential.
