Popular gospel singer Adeyinka Alaseyori has publicly apologized after facing intense criticism over comments she made regarding the kidnapping of dozens of schoolchildren and teachers in Oyo State, an incident that has continued to spark outrage across the country.

The singer had earlier addressed the security crisis during an Instagram Live session, where she urged Nigerians to embrace prayer while expressing confidence that security agencies and government authorities were making efforts to secure the release of the abducted victims.

Her remarks came against the backdrop of the abduction of more than 40 pupils and several teachers from a school in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, an incident that has generated widespread concern and condemnation.

During the live session, Alaseyori suggested that security personnel could sometimes be hindered in rescue operations and stressed the need for spiritual intervention alongside government efforts.

The comments quickly triggered heated reactions online.

Many Nigerians accused the singer of appearing to excuse government failures at a time when families of the abducted children were demanding urgent action, accountability, and concrete results from security agencies.

As criticism mounted, social media users flooded various platforms with messages expressing disappointment over her position, arguing that prayer alone could not replace decisive security measures in addressing the country’s worsening insecurity.

The backlash continued for days, with commentators, activists, and concerned citizens questioning the timing and tone of her remarks given the emotional trauma being experienced by the affected families.

Amid the growing pressure, the gospel singer released a fresh video in which she apologized to Nigerians over the controversial comments that had generated public anger.

In the apology, Alaseyori acknowledged the pain and sensitivity surrounding the abduction case and expressed regret that her earlier comments had offended many people.

She explained that her intention was not to diminish the suffering of the victims’ families or suggest that the tragedy should be taken lightly, but rather to encourage continued prayers alongside ongoing rescue efforts.

The singer also appealed for understanding from Nigerians, stressing that she empathises deeply with the affected children, parents, and communities impacted by the kidnapping crisis.

Her apology has since generated mixed reactions, with some Nigerians commending her for taking responsibility and clarifying her position, while others insist that public figures should exercise greater caution when speaking on matters involving national tragedies.

The incident itself remains a major source of concern across the country, with calls growing louder for stronger security measures and the safe return of all those still being held captive.
