In a major crackdown on school kidnappings, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has deployed a specialized security unit equipped with advanced rescue capabilities to Oyo State.

The intervention follows the May 15 abduction of teachers and pupils from schools in the Ahoro-Esiele and Yawota communities of Oriire Local Government Area.

Making the announcement on Monday via his official X handle, the President expressed his profound sympathy to the families of the victims and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to securing their release.

“I share the pain and anxiety of the affected families. No child should be taken from the safety of a classroom. No parent should have to endure this anguish,” Tinubu said.

He assured Nigerians that the federal government is intensifying efforts to secure the safe return of all victims.

According to the President, he has directed the immediate deployment of a specialised security unit equipped with advanced rescue capabilities to strengthen ongoing operations in the area.

Following the visit of a high-level federal delegation to the affected communities of Esiele and Yawota, Tinubu approved the recruitment of 1,000 forest guards in collaboration with the Oyo State government.

“I have also directed the deployment of a specialised security unit with advanced rescue capabilities to intensify efforts to secure the safe return of the abducted pupils and teachers,” he wrote.

“The communities’ request for the establishment of a military base in the area is receiving urgent consideration.”

Persecondnews reports that the incident has triggered widespread concern across Oyo State with teachers under the umbrella of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) embarking on an indefinite strike and protest.
