Babachir Lawal, former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, has resigned from the African Democratic Congress (ADC), citing massive primary rigging to favour ex-Vice President Atiku Abubakar and his allies.

The outspoken ex-SGF made the dramatic exit known through a statement released on Monday.

He sharply criticised the just-concluded ADC primaries, claiming the entire process was heavily manipulated to hand victory to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and his close associates.

The departure of the former SGF represents a severe setback for the party.

It not only underscores widening internal fractures but also spotlights intense scrutiny regarding the transparency of its nomination procedures for candidates.
