The National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress(APC), Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, has defended the outcome of the party’s presidential primaries held on Saturday, May 23 across the country.
He insisted that the exercise reflected the APC’s expanding nationwide structure and grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 elections.
During an interview on Channels Television on Monday, monitored by Persecondnews, Yilwatda said the outcome of the primaries also showed growing confidence in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the ruling party across the country.
He described the APC as “one of the most prepared political parties” in the country, noting that the party’s congresses and primaries were conducted with almost zero incidences across communities nationwide.
“We have one of the most prepared machinery, a political machine that’s prepared for war and can tackle any political opponent at any given time,” he said.
The APC chairman dismissed claims that figures from the primaries were manipulated, arguing that the party’s increasing control of states, National Assembly seats and grassroots structures justified the high turnout recorded during the exercise.
“Today, the South-South that was purely with PDP and Obi, all of them are now APC,”. Even in the North-West, where NNPP and PDP were strong, today they are near zero.”
Yilwatda said the APC’s growing electoral strength was evident in the increasing number of governors, lawmakers and political stakeholders who had aligned with the ruling party since the 2023 general elections.
He also maintained that voting patterns from various APC primaries across the country showed consistency, insisting that internal data from House of Assembly, Senate and governorship contests supported the credibility of the figures announced by the party.
“There is no party that has a better mechanism for conflict resolution more than our party. The APC has consistently resolved post primary disputes through internal reconciliation processes rather than allowing divisions to degenerate into prolonged crises”, he added.
