Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has been named the Premier League Player of the 2025/26 season, delivering a masterclass in creativity and leadership that powered the Red Devils’ revival.

The Portugal international edged out strong contenders to claim the prestigious individual honour for the first time in his career.

The Premier League made the announcement on Saturday, confirming Fernandes as the standout performer of the campaign.

The 31-year-old beat Arsenal duo Declan Rice and David Raya, along with Gabriel and Manchester City’s Erling Haaland, to take the award.

It marks the first time a Manchester United player has won the accolade since Wayne Rooney in 2010.

Fernandes becomes the seventh United player and the club’s eighth overall winner in the award’s history.
He is also only the third Portuguese player to claim the honour, following Cristiano Ronaldo (twice) and Ruben Dias in 2021.

The former Sporting Lisbon star spearheaded United’s renaissance this season, recording a record-equalling 20 assists and scoring eight goals across 37 Premier League appearances.

His vision and creativity have been unmatched, as he created 132 chances for teammates — the highest in the division and 43 more than any other player.

Those contributions proved decisive in securing Manchester United’s return to the UEFA Champions League after a two-year absence.

With one match remaining, Fernandes now has the chance to break the Premier League’s all-time single-season assists record when the Red Devils face Europa League winners Aston Villa on Sunday.
