To strengthen credible diplomatic reporting, curb misinformation, and improve information integrity in diplomacy, security, trade, and international relations, the Nigeria Fact-Check and Information Integrity Network was launched in Abuja on Thursday.

Persecondnews reports that the initiative was rolled out at the 2nd Diplomatic, Security, Trade and Investment International Conference organised by the Diplomatic Correspondents Association of Nigeria.

The event brought together journalists, diplomats, and policy stakeholders to address growing concerns over misinformation and the need for stronger collaboration in international affairs reporting.

Amb. Dunoma Ahmed, the Permanent Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs, commended diplomatic correspondents for their role in shaping informed public understanding of Nigeria’s foreign policy direction.

“This conference provides a timely platform for robust engagement on diplomacy, international relations, trade and global cooperation,” he said.

He stressed that diplomatic journalism remains vital in an increasingly interconnected world where information shapes perception and policy.

Ahmed noted that the media continues to play a central role in promoting transparency and accountability in governance.

“The media remains a vital partner in promoting transparency, accountability and mutual understanding among nations.”

Reaffirming government commitment, he said the ministry would continue to deepen collaboration with the press in advancing Nigeria’s foreign policy objectives.

“We are committed to strengthening strategic partnerships with the media in advancing Nigeria’s foreign policy objectives anchored on national interest, economic diplomacy, regional stability and the protection of Nigerians abroad,” he affirmed.

He urged participants to strengthen professional cooperation and adopt innovative approaches to diplomatic reporting in the digital era.
